VLVC includes a videoconference solution inside the VideoLAN Client.

VideoLanClient is a software used to broadcast multimedia contents like videos. Developed by "Ecole Centrale Paris", it is compatible with many codecs and available for several platforms like Windows and Linux. The reason why we chose VLC as a starting base for our application is because of this compatibility and also because it is an open-source software.

VLVC will be a module included inside VLC to add videoconference features. Its purpose is to allow a large number of users to access these features thanks to a free and open-source licence, as well as to use VLC to be compatible with as many platforms as possible.

Different modes of videoconference.

VLVC has four different kinds of videoconference, that covers most of the user's needs.
  1. Chatroom Mode : All users are able to hear and see each others, they also have the possibility to speak whenever they want to.
  2. Conference Mode : This mode has one administrator, which is actually the server, he will transmit his sound and video streams to all other users.
  3. Amphitheatre Mode : It is an advanced version of Conference Mode, users will have the possibility to ask permission to speak. Once the request is accepted by the administrator (server), that user will be heard and seen by all others. Only one request can be accepted at a time, other requests will be pending.
  4. Meeting Mode : It is quite similar with the Amphitheatre Mode, but the administrator will be able to authorize multiple users to speak at the same time.
